Assets of Nawaz Sharif and his children frozen due to corruption charges
The former Prime minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has been disqualified by the Supreme court for corruption spotted regarding the dishonesty in the Panama Papers Scandal. The whole family’s properties have been frozen and seized.
The major cause of the issue
The reason behind the scene is said to be Hassan Sharif, son of the Longest-served PM, who owns property without a declared source of income. The investigations were an evidence for the Sharif family’s ownership of luxury residences in London and Offshore companies. The raid at the Finance minister’s house made the NAB issue the bailable arrest warrants. The corruption that prevails in the family drew them to a situation where The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) froze the assets of Nawaz Sharif, Hassan Sharif, Hussain Sharif, Maryam, his son-in-law, and finance minister Ishaq Dar.
Early stages of the summon
Though the family was summoned twice, there was no response to it which made the Supreme court issue the notice of appearance for 26th of September. Nawaz Sharif took a three-day rally from Islamabad to Lahore denying the corruption filed against him. Supreme court had already removed him from the position of PM while the investigations took place.
The illness of Nawaz’s wife
Every member of the Nawaz family is currently in London, taking care of Nawaz’s wife Begum Kalsoom Nawaz who’s undergoing treatment for Lymphoma, cancer of lymph nodes which depicts a clear excuse for not appearing in the Supreme court.
We get to know the extent of corruption, where one denies to be have committed crimes even when there is complete evidence. The misuse of power is clearly depicted through this case. When Prime minister himself is faulty, how would Pakistan lead the way to anti-corruption?
