The Game Of Thrones Leak:
We all know the craze and borderline obsession that surrounds Game Of Thrones. The much awaited season seven was launched recently and the fourth episode was going to be aired on Sunday night (i.e. on 6th August). But a huge turn of events happened when the episode was leaked online on Friday (i.e. 4th August). Within seconds of the leak, there were millions of downloads happening and the viewers were mostly elated. However, the makers raged for all the obvious reasons. The video leak was one of low quality and had an imprint of ‘For internal viewing only’ at the top left side. The episode was titled “Ruins of War” and was leaked through Google Drive on a Reddit post.
What really happened?
Earlier this week, a news aired claiming that a group of hackers had got hold of the script of the upcoming Game Of Thrones episodes. But this second news about the actual leak is what created a storm. Investigations are still on if the two hacks are related. Apparently, the leak has happened through Star India. Thus, the source of leak is said to be in India. The Star India spokesperson says, “We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action,”
Thus, people are skeptical in blaming the leaks on the HBO hackers. It’s mostly an outcome of Star India’s carelessness.
Well, this is one of the greatest leaks in the history of cyber security considering the magnitude. The consumers of his leak were in millions. This is certain to cause HBO and the Game of Thrones makers a huge share of money owing to the obvious decline in TRPs of the episode that’s going to be aired tomorrow.
